Introduction to Parents’ Handbook

Dear Parents:
We are pleased to count you and your child as part of our Center family. Our
primary goal is to offer your child and safe and healthy environment
designed to promote development. We are here to support you in the serious
task of rearing your child, and hope to be your partners in this effort.
Please feel free to question us daily about your child’s activities and moods.
Sharing your child’s home life will similarly better equip us to help him.

The Parents’ Handbook is provided to families so that we each will know
what to expect of the other. A review of the Table of Contents for the
Handbook reveals that it contains information on the Program Philosophy,
Goals and Objectives, an overview of the Curriculum for Children, and statements
of Center Policy and Procedures. It is our hope that you will take time
to read the Handbook carefully, and will question us regarding any unclear
points.

Working together we can set your child on the road to a healthy and happy
childhood full of wonder and the joy of learning.

Please contact the Center at any time with your questions.

Thank you for your cooperation and support of the Program.
Sincerely yours,
Center Director/ site   supervisor

Medications Policy

Dear Parents:
Center policies, as described in the Parents’ Handbook and state guidelines
for programs like ours, state that we can only administer medications to children
if a strict set of guidelines is observed.
These guidelines are as follows:
*Medications must come in their original bottle.
*The name of the child to whom medications are to be administered must
be on the bottle. Medications cannot be shared by siblings.
*The medication dosage must be on the bottle, including the number of
times per day to be administered, and instructions as to how long the
medication should be administered.
*Teachers will store medications in a lock box or lock box in the refrigerator
according to storage instructions.
*The same teacher will administer medications each day to avoid confusion.
*Teachers will record each dosage of medications given in a book for this
purpose found in each classroom.
Please assist us in the proper administration of medications to your child.
Sincerely yours,
Center Director

First Week of School Schedule

Dear _______________________:
We are delighted to welcome you and your child, ________, to our Program!
Just a reminder about our policies regarding the first week of school, as outlined
in the Parents’ Handbook.
Since young children need time and support in order to adjust to a new setting,
we require that you or another primary caretaker stay with your child
during the first two days of attendance. On the first day, you and your child
will stay for two hours only, and on the second day you and your child will
come for the morning and leave after lunch. On the third day, you child may
stay on his own at the Center, but must be picked up by immediately after
lunch and before the children take their naps. On the fourth day of attendance,
you child may stay at the Center for the entire day.
We are aware that this requirement can create a hardship for parents
employed outside the home, or those with extensive family commitments.
However, we know that this investment of your time will reap the rewards of
a happy and well adjusted child.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Center Director

Change of Clothing

Dear Parents:
Young children have toileting accidents, food spills, and generally get messy.
That is why the Center requires each child to have a fresh change of clothing
in his/her cubby, including pants, shirt, underclothes and socks.
It is difficult for your child if an accident occurs and there are no clean
clothes. It also forces teachers to borrow clothing from other children.
Please bring a fresh change of clothing each time soiled clothes are sent
home.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Sincerely yours,
Center Director

Child Drop Off/Pick Up Safety

Dear Parents:
Please remember that Center policies (see Parents’ Handbook) require that
parents deliver children to the classroom door and sign in when dropping
them off at the Center. Children may not be left in the Center yard or inside
the door of the classroom. Teachers should be made aware that each child
has arrived for the day.
When picking children up at the end of the day, please check the cubby or
other message center set up by your child’s teacher for any memos or handouts.
Let the teacher know that you have arrived to pick up your child, and
sign your child out for the day in the book provided in each classroom.
Children should be dropped off and picked up from the Center only by designated
persons 18 years of age or older. Children will not be released to
minors. If a substitute caregiver is designated by you to transport your child
to and from school, please notify the Center at _____________ of the name of
this individual and the times/days that he/she will be providing this service.
These policies are designed to provide the utmost safety for your child. Thank
you for your cooperation.
Sincerely yours,
Center Director

SECURITY

We believe strongly in the importance of security for you, your child and our Associates.
Sharon school   has procedures in place for proper pick up and drop-off of the children in our care.

Checking In
Please remember that
Sharon laup  requires that parents deliver children to the classroom door and sign in when dropping them off at the Center. Children may not be left in the Center yard or inside the door of the classroom. Teachers should be made aware that each child has arrived for the day.

Checking Out
Every time you pick-up your child from
Sharon laup school  you must check him/her out on the sign-in sheet (where state requires) in the front of the lobby. If one of the people authorized is picking up your child, he/she must show proper identification, such as a valid driver’s license, before we release your child. That person must check your child out on the sign-in sheet in the front of the lobby where required by the state.

Authorization of Pick-Up
Children should be dropped off and picked up from
Sharon laup  only by designated person 18 years of age or older. Children will not be released to minors. If a substitute caregiver is designated by you to transport your child to and from school, please notify the Center at ( 818 ) 244  9365 of the name of this individual and the times/days that he/she will be providing this service. These policies are designed to provide the utmost safety for your child.

Visitors
All visitors to our
Sharon preschool  are greeted and asked to sign the Visitor Log and state the purpose of their visit. To ensure the security of the child and the staff members, picture identification is required from all unfamiliar visitors. If a visitor is listed as an authorized person to pick-up a child, the visitor must still show picture identification if he/she is not known by the Director and/or staff members.

Emergencies
Emergency procedures are posted in every
Sharon  classroom. If an emergency occurs, it is crucial that children respond in a safe and orderly fashion. Therefore, children participate in regular drills and practices so they will know what to do in the case of an actual emergency. Should an emergency affect the school, we will notify you as soon as possible. As a safety measure, we keep an updated file of names, addresses and phone numbers of the people you have authorized to pick up your child in case of an emergency. Since the file is based on the information you provide on the enrollment forms, it is important for you to notify the Director in writing of any changes, as children will not be released without proper authorization.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Nutrition
At
Sharon school    we feed your child’s rapidly growing and developing body with nutritious meals provided by the Federal Department of Education. We believe in the importance of regular nourishment. We give nutritious AM snack , lunch, and supper every day. Menus include foods children love and meet their daily nutrition, as well as our licensing requirements. Our first and foremost priority is to ensure that we provide a healthy and safe environment for the children in our care.

Allergies
If your child has allergy issues, please speak to your child’s teacher and the Director so we can take the right precautions.

Sharon  school   policies and state guidelines for programs like ours, state that we can only administer medications to children if a strict set of guidelines is observed. These guidelines are as follows:
l Medications must come in their original bottle.
l The name of the child to whom medications are to be administered must be on the bottle. Siblings cannot share medications.
l The medication dosage must be on the bottle, including the number of times per day to be administered, and instructions as to how long the medication should be administered.
l Teachers will store medications in a lock box or a lock box in the refrigerator according to storage instructions.
l The same teacher will administer medications each day to avoid confusion.
l Teachers will record each dosage for this purpose found in each room.

Illnesses
If your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms, please keep your child at home.
l Wheezing
l Nasal discharge or sneezing
l Fever in the past 24 hours
l Constant cough
l Vomiting
l Rash
l Recurrent diarrhea
l Communicable disease (Ex. Chicken pox or measles)
If your child were to be exposed to a communicable disease, you would want to know right away. For that reason, please tell us if your child has been exposed so we can alert other parents. If your child becomes ill at R
sharon school  , we will contact you to pick up your child immediately.!!!

Injuries and Accidents

We take precautions to prevent childhood accidents. However, as children begin testing their limitations, accidents sometimes happen. Safety is our number one priority at
Sharon  LAUP school  . Our vigilant approach to safeguarding children starts with ensuring that our building, playground, vehicles and equipments meet all applicable safety guidelines and requirements. Our staff is trained to be watchful and take precautions to prevent accidents and injuries. Children receive instruction on safe practices at Sharon   LAUP  school . Furthermore, we approach safety as a matter of continuous improvement. We constantly seek input from parents, licensing authorities and other child care professionals and we incorporate the best practices into ongoing training.

Although safeguards are in place, accidents and injuries are still possible. Should your child have an accident or suffer a minor injury while at
Sharon  school  , we will administer basic first aid and you will be notified. If your child needs non-emergency medical care, we will call you promptly so that you can arrange for him or her to be seen by a doctor. We will call 911 in the event of any given emergency.

If your child is injured at
Sharon  LAUP  school  and or requires medical support, you will be asked to sign a form acknowledging that the matter was reported to you in a timely fashion. This is in according with the state licensing regulations. We also urge you to keep us informed while your child is recovering. We care deeply about how your child is doing and we may be able to help with the healing process. Additionally,  Sharon  school  always welcomes your ideas on improvements that can be made from the experience or ways to help avoid other incidents.
